Pouty Dog MUSIC

From Stage to Studio

Under Construction1

WELCOME

Hi and welcome to my website. It's been a long time coming, and is very much a work in progress, but make yourself at home.

My name is Scott Trivers. I'm a lover of music based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada. This little site will give you a window into some of my interests.

I started out singing in the church choir when I was quite young. A half century later I'm still quite fond of singing - in particular harmony vocals - but I've picked up some other music-related skills along the way. I have experience on stage and in studio as a backing musician on a variety of instruments, as a solo and backing vocalist, songwriter, arranger, producer and live audio technician. If you're interested in learning more there are more details below (or more accurately, will be).

    Areas of Interest

    Solo Artist

I have a clear voice in the low tenor, high baritone range and a relaxed chill vibe on stage.
I generally play acoustic renditions of a wide range of genres.  I tend toward relaxed mid-speed B-sides and deep cuts peppered with the odd well-known hit. You can expect a mix of old pop tunes, folk, blues, classic rock, college rock, alt country, bluegrass, trad and americana.  Some of my favorite artists to copy are: Stan Rogers, Jim Croce, Neil Young, Paul Simon, John Prine, Jason Isbell, Blue Rodeo and the Tragically Hip.

    Backing Musician

I absolutely love singing harmony, and can often arrange a harmony line on the spot. I have learned to play a number of instruments to give me something to do on stage while I wait to sing harmony:
    Acoustic Guitar
    Mandolin
    Bass
    Contrabass
    Percussion
    Harmonica
    Tin Whistle
    Bodhran

    Producer / Arranger

Figuring out how to best capture the feel and texture of a song in order to showcase its beauty may be my favorite thing to do. Collaborating with the writer to make sure we serve the song properly, figuring out the speed, the feel, which instruments to use or not use; all of it is both challenging and rewarding.  I'm particularly fond of Pre-production.

    Audio Technician

It's hard to really get into music if it's too quiet to hear, or too loud to enjoy. The same is true when you perform music. This is why I learned as much as I could about sound reinforcement and recording over the years. It was even my full time job for a while.

    Studio

Here are some of the recording artists I've contributed to over the years, primarily as a backing vocalist, but I've also tracked bass, mandolin, guitar, washboard, harmonica and contrabass

    John Dalton
    Leona Burkey
    Ron Mills
    The Semaphores
    Ronok Sarkar
    A.J. Gillis
